While made with genuine concern and not knowing other options, schools often call CPS in response to a child struggling at home due to poverty or lack of access to basic needs. 

 

The child welfare hotline is not intended to connect families with resources. Child welfare intervention may lead to more state surveillance, criminalization, and family separation, especially for Black, Latino, and Indigenous families.

Families, not institutions or organizations, are at

the center of disrupting the pipeline from schools to family separation.

Together with educators, families design a community care plan for families to support families through mutual aid, cultural wisdom, and accountability.
